How to Install ScanGear CS-U 5.3.2, the Driver for Windows 2000 

About ScanGear CS-U 5.3.2
-	ScanGear CS-U 5.3.2 is the driver specific to Windows 2000.
-	It has the same features as the Windows 98 version, ScanGear CS-U 5.3.0 (or 5.3.1a).
-	For more details about the program, please see the ScanGear CS-U 5.3 Users Guide (PDF manual/electronic manual).
-	Installation of this program on Windows 2000 should be performed by users registered as Administrators. 
-	ScanGear CS-U 5.3.2 can be used by administrators or standard users. It cannot be used by restricted users.

Before You Install the Software
The installation method you should use will vary according to the computer configuration. Please check the following before starting the installation.
(a)	Proceed to item [2] if the computer came with Windows 2000 preinstalled or Windows 2000 was installed as a clean install, not an upgrade.
(b)	Proceed to item [1] if the computer is to be upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 at a later point. 
(c)	Proceed to item [3] if a version of ScanGear CS-U specific to Windows 98 has already been installed on the computer and the operating system has been upgraded to Windows 2000 without first deleting ScanGear CS-U:
(d)	Proceed to item [4] if the ScanGear CS-U version specific to Windows 98 (ScanGear CS-U 5.3.0 or 5.3.1a) was installed on a computer running Windows 2000. (The driver will not actually be installed correctly.)
 
[1]	How to Delete the ScanGear CS-U Version Specific to Windows 98
Before you upgrade to Windows 2000, please ensure that you delete the Windows 98-specific version of ScanGear CS-U first. The Windows 98-specific versions are ScanGear CS-U 5.3.0 and 5.3.1a.
ScanGear CS-U will not operate correctly if you attempted to upgrade to Windows 2000 without first deleting the Windows 98-specific version. Before upgrading, ensure that you first delete the Windows 98-specific version.
The following is the procedure for deleting the Windows 98-specific version of ScanGear CS-U. 
(1)	Connect the CanoScan FB630U/FB636U to the computer. 
(2)	Place the CanoScan Setup Utility CD-ROM (Windows version) in the CD-ROM drive.
(3)	When the CanoScan Setup Utility window appears, click the [Install/Uninstall Software] button. (If the CanoScan Setup Utility window does not appear, double-click the [My Computer] icon on the Windows desktop and the CD-ROM drive icon labeled CanoScan).
(4)	In the [Install] window, click the [Uninstall] button at the top and read the instructions to proceed with deleting ScanGear CS-U 5.3.0 (or 5.3.1a). At the end of the process, the Scanners and Cameras Properties dialog will display. If more than one copy of [CanoScan FB630U/FB636U] appears, delete all of them.
(5)	Close the Uninstall window and detach the USB cable connecting the computer and CanoScan FB630U/FB636U. 
(6)	After you have upgraded the operating system to Windows 2000, proceed to item [2] below.

[2]	How to Install ScanGear CS-U 5.3.2, the Windows 2000-Specific Version 
(1)	Install ScanGear CS-U as a driver for Windows 2000 according to the procedures described in steps 1 to 8 in the "Installing the Scanner Software" section of the CanoScan FB630U/FB636U Getting Started Guide (p. 10).
(2)	In step 9, select "Specify a location" and click the "Next" button.
(3)	Click the "Browse" button and select ScanGear folder of ScanGear CS-U 5.3.2 to display "FB63u.inf", then click the "Open" button.  
(4) 	Follow the procedure of step 11 and after in CanoScan FB636U Getting Started to install.
[3]	How to Reinstall ScanGear CS-U 5.3.2 for Windows 2000 
(1)	Connect your CanoScan FB630U/FB636U to the computer.
(2)	Right-click the [My Computer] icon on the Windows desktop and select [Properties] to display the System Properties dialog. Select the [Hardware] tab and click the [Device Manager] button.
(3)	Double-click the [Imaging devices] or [Other Device] category and the [CanoScan FB630U/FB636U] item. Click the [Reinstall Driver] button to display the first window of the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard. Click the [Next] button.
(4)	Confirm that [Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended)] is selected and click the [Next] button.
(5)	Select "Specify a location" and click the "Next" button.
(6)	Click the "Browse" button and select ScanGear folder of ScanGear CS-U 5.3.2 to display "FB63u.inf", then click the "Open" button.  
(7)	Click the [OK] button and if CanoScan FB630U/FB636U is found after the search concludes, click the [Next] button.
(8)	Click [Yes] if the [The target file exists and is newer than the source. Overwrite the newer file?] message appears.
(9)	When the installation is complete, click the [Finish] button.
(10)	Close the CanoScan FB630U/FB636U Properties window.

[4]	How to Delete the Windows 98-Specific Version of ScanGear CS-U from Windows 2000 
(1)	Connect the CanoScan FB630U/FB636U to the computer. 
(2)	Right-click the [My Computer] icon on the Windows desktop and select [Properties] to display the System Properties dialog. Select the [Hardware] tab and click the [Device Manager] button.
(3)	Double-click the [Imaging devices] or [Other Device] category and the [CanoScan FB630U/FB636U] item. 
(4)	Select the [Driver] tab and click the [Uninstall] button.
(5)	Double-click "DelInf63.exe" included in the release note CD-ROM to execute.
(6)	Detach the USB cable between the computer and the CanoScan FB630U/FB636U and restart the computer. 

How to Uninstall ScanGear CS-U 5.3.2 for Windows 2000
Follow the procedures below to uninstall ScanGear CS-U 5.3.2 after it has been installed in Windows 2000.
(1)	Connect the CanoScan FB630U/FB636U to the computer. 
(2)	Double-click the [My Computer] icon on the Windows desktop and the [Control Panel] folder.
(3)	Double-click the [Scanners and Cameras] icon to open the Scanners and Cameras Properties dialog.
(4)	Select [CanoScan FB630U/FB636U] and click [Remove].
(5)	Place the CanoScan Setup Utility CD-ROM (Windows version) in the CD-ROM drive.
(6)	Click the [Exit] button to close the CanoScan Setup Utility window when it appears. 
(7)	Start the [Windows Explorer] program.
(8)	Double-click "DelInf63.exe" included in the release note CD-ROM to execute.
(9)	Detach the USB cable between the computer and the CanoScan FB630U/FB636U. 
(10)	To reinstall the driver, restart the computer and proceed to item [2] above.

Troubleshooting/What to do if the Computer Does Not Recognize the Scanner
(1)	Connect your CanoScan FB630U/FB636U to the computer.
(2)	Right-click the [My Computer] icon on the Windows desktop and select [Properties] to display the System Properties dialog. Select the [Hardware] tab and click the [Device Manager] button.
(3)	Double-click the [Imaging devices] or [Other Device] category and the [CanoScan FB630U/FB636U] item. 
(4)	Select the [Drivers] tab and click the [Uninstall] button.
(5)	Detach the USB cable between the computer and the CanoScan FB630U/FB636U.
(6)	Restart the computer and proceed to item [2] above.
